    NRDA small spill restoration project description - A fisheries migration improvement project in the City of Roseville is in the final stages of construction. The project was funded by the Department of Fish and Game, Office of Spill Prevention and Response and the Department of Water Resources.

    Cosco Busan NRDA - The legal settlement with Regal Stone Shipping and Fleet Management, the responsible parties in the case, involved several components. Natural resource damages totaled $32.3 million. The trustee agencies are proposing the following: approximately $5 million for bird restoration, $4 million for habitat restoration, $2.5 million for fish and eelgrass restoration, and $18.8 million for recreational improvements. An additional $2 million will fund administration and oversight. Any unused administrative funds will go toward more restoration.

    Luckenbach restoration claim update and restoration project highlights - The final component of the Luckenbach Trustees’ claim for restoration funds from the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund was adjudicated in August 2011. The National Pollution Funds Center has now awarded a total of $22.7 million to the Trustees to implement the 14 restoration projects described in the Damage Assessment and Restoration Plan. Most of the projects are now underway.

    Dubai Star NRDA - On October 30, 2009, the oil tanker Dubai Star lost over 400 gallons of Intermediate Fuel Oil during a re-fueling accident. A natural resource damage assessment was conducted to assess the injuries resulting from the spill and a summary of injuries is included in this update.

    Luckenbach settlement andrestoration projects - In 1953 the SS Jacob Luckenbach sank in the Gulf of the Farallones resulting in leaking oil which killed thousands of seabirds. The natural resource trustee agencies submitted a $25 million claim to the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund for restoration projects. In January 2010, most of the claim was approved and this news letter describes restoration actions taken to date.

    Update of the Cosco Busan oil spill - The container ship Cosco Busan struck a support tower in the Bay Bridge, puncturing the vessel and spilling 58,000 gallons of Intermediate Fuel Oil. State and Federal trustee agencies have been assessing the injuries to natural resources and their uses caused by the Cosco Busan oil spill of November 2007. This process is known as a natural resource damage assessment (NRDA). The update includes a preliminary summary of injuries to birds, fish, mammals, shoreline habitats, eelgrass, and human uses.

    News release: State and federal agencies have been awarded $2.8 million to restore natural resources injured by the Luckenbach oil spills and other mystery spills in the Gulf of the Farallons. The fu - The five restoration projects are designed to: 1. restore and enhance nesting habitat for the common murres and other seabirds at Reading Rock, off the Humboldt County coast; 2. reduce human disturbance at grebe nesting colonies at northern California lakes; 3. reduce human disturbance at waterfowl, loon, and shorebird nesting at Kokechik Flats, Alaska; 4. restore nesting habitat for seabirds at Ano Nuevo Island, off the San Mateo County coast; and 5. conduct education and outreach programs to reduce human and livestock effluent and associated pathogens that are impacting sea otters in Monterey Bay.

    This document is a fact sheet which describes the contamination, damages, injuries, compensation, and restoration projects that have been proposed in the draft damage assessment/enviromental assessmen - Intertidal and sub-tidal mudflats are contaminated with oil and mercury from historical discharges of wastewater and stormwater runoff from the Chevron Refinery into the adjacent marsh and cove.

    NRDA Factsheet - State and federal trustee agencies have been assessing the ecological injuries and impacts to human activities caused by the Cosco Busan oil spill. This process is known as natural resource damage assessment (NRDA). The goal is to quantify injuries to wildlife, habitat, and lost uses of those resources, and then determine how to best restore the resources and compensate for the losses. This process is separate from other legal claims, such as claims for reimbursement by private parties. Preliminary results of the damage assessment are included.

The spill killed Marbled Murrelets; 1,600 Common Murres; 670 other seabirds; 3,282 kilograms of shrimp and over 6,000 fish.
