CDFW Science Institute: To ensure quality, visibility and integrity of the science that is conducted and used within the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
About Science in CDFW
At CDFW, sound science is a crucial foundation for the day-to-day work we do to maintain California's fish, wildlife and natural communities. Reflecting the diverse natural resources of our State, science in CDFW spans numerous disciplines, species, habitats, and geographic areas. It also involves many collaborators, including universities, non-profit organizations, and other agencies. CDFW's Science Institute is part of a new initiative to expand and enhance our scientific capacity and to provide the public with opportunities to see and learn about the important science we do in support of the mission of CDFW.
Quality in Science
Carrying out sound science means ensuring that the scientific work of CDFW adheres to the highest standards and recommended practices of scientific study and integrity. These are several of the elements that CDFW has implemented to promote high quality science that is robust, credible, transparent, and relevant:
- Policies and guidelines pertaining to quality and integrity of scientific work in CDFW
- Team for scientific development and oversight in CDFW
- Guidelines for Ad Hoc Scientific Advisory Committees (PDF)
- Scientific Community Development Program for the training and professional development of CDFW scientists
